How to Log Measurements to a CSV File on a SDM3000X DMM Without Using a Computer

For SDM3045X, SDM3055, and SDM3065X

It is often useful to save measurements to a CSV file over long time periods. One way is to log data to a USB flash drive that is plugged into the DMM.

First choose a function, range, and sampling rate. In this case we will save DCV measurements on a USB drive at the fastest rate. Auto range can slow the measurement rate; if the range of the measurand is known it is better to select a range on the DMM.

Here, Auto range and fastest sampling rate are selected.

Press Acquire, to configure Trg Src, Delay, and Samples/Trigger. For this example, I have selected Auto trigger, Delay = 0 sec., and 1 sample per trigger.
Here, we have changed the display to Trend type and have input a changing DCV signal.
Press Save Reading.
Press U-disk Record and choose a File Name or accept the default. For a blank USB drive, the default names begin with csv_data_1. Press the Record button once to begin saving measurements to USB.

Subsequent measurements are recorded while On. Press the Record button again to stop (Off) or press Done to continue logging measurements and return to the measurement display.

To stop recording, press Acquire on the front panel, then Save Reading, then U-disk Record. Press Record to turn off recording and close the file.

In this example, we saved 100kSa (102400 samples) onto the USB drive at a rate of about 78 samples/second to the file csv_data_1.csv. The file contains a header consisting of measurement function, time stamp in seconds, and amplitude in Volts.

Below are some of the first lines of data in the file.

To continue recording, press Record again. Subsequent measurements are saved to a new file. In this case, csv_data_1.csv already exists on the USB drive, so the automatic default is csv_data_2.csv.

When attempting to Record a datafile using a file name that already exists on the USB drive, the warning shown below is displayed and the file will not be overwritten.
