The SDM series of multimeters have autorange capabilities that allow the meter to automatically select the range appropriate for a given input signal level.
To prevent damage to the meter, current (ACI and DCI measurement modes) ranges will be automatically up-ranged if the input signal exceeds the maximum value for the selected manual range. In effect, manual ranges will be over-ridden if the input exceeds the set range maximum.
